A New Beginning for a fisherman’s Family
Abida Nasir is a poor woman living in UC Surbandar, District Gwadar, with her husband and six children—two daughters and four sons. Her family’s financial condition is fragile, and their home provides just enough shelter to survive. Abida’s husband works as a fisherman, while she earns a modest income of approximately Rs. 20,000 per month by sewing clothes. Despite these hardships, her children continue their education in a government school.
One ordinary day, an extraordinary change arrived in Abida’s life through the intervention of the IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development) project.
GLLSP-II Project Intervention
Abida was validated under BISP (Benazir Income Support Program), qualifying as an ultra-poor individual according to its criteria. As a member of the Community Organization (CO), she had been struggling, uncertain about how to pull her family out of the depths of poverty. When the NRSP (National Rural Support Program) team approached her with an opportunity, Abida’s eyes filled with tears. She asked, “Who is going to help me? Who will take me out of my difficulties?”
The NRSP team explained the IFAD project, and an overwhelmed Abida expressed her gratitude with profound joy. Her journey toward transformation had begun.
Livelihood Investment Plan (LIP)
Abida’s LIP, registered as NRSP-B-G-SB-O17, identified fishing nets as the most valuable investment for her family. Her husband owned a small boat, but lacking fishing nets, he could not fully utilize it. Instead, he worked as labor for local fishermen in UC Surbandar, barely earning Rs. 500 per day.
With the support of IFAD and NRSP, Abida made a good decision—equipping her husband with fishing nets to enhance his livelihood. For the first time, the boat that once sat idle on the shore was ready to serve its rightful purpose.
A New Beginning
This assistance changed everything. Her husband was now able to fish independently, bringing home a steady income. With each new day, hope blossomed in Abida’s heart. The small intervention had rippled into a future where her children could study without constant financial distress, and her family could dream beyond survival.
Abida Nasir, once caught in the cycle of poverty, now stood with renewed confidence, embracing the promise of a better life. “Without IFAD and NRSP’s support, I don’t know what would have happened to us,” she said softly, reflecting on her past struggles. “You came at the right moment.”
Her story is not just one of transformation but of resilience, gratitude, and the unwavering spirit of survival.
